I teach people to junk journal.
For that little moment when someone who swore up and down they weren't creative finishes their first page and gets a bit misty about it. Happens every time. I'm here to make it easy and cheer you on while you start.
In the room
My workshops sell out, in Anaheim, in Seattle, in Funchal, Portugal, but the sold-out part isn't what I'm proud of. It's what happens in the room. People walk in nervous, convinced they're not creative enough, and walk out an hour later holding a page that's unmistakably theirs, made from scraps they'd have thrown away that morning.
The community
The room doesn't close when the workshop ends.
Junk Journal and Yap is a whole community of people who keep making honest pages together, long after the last table is packed up. We swap scraps and stories, we cheer each other through the messy middle, and nobody here cares whether your page is pretty. Only that it's true. Wherever you are, there's a seat for you and a story only you can tell.
For the record
I'm Filipino, I speak three languages, and I'm raising a three-year-old who already has strong opinions about which of my journals are his now. When I'm not layering scraps, I'm probably watching sumo. I have favorites, and they tell you everything about me. Hakuho, the greatest to ever do it, and Ura, who wins by doing everything the wrong way on purpose. Mastery and rule-breaking in the same breath. That's the whole philosophy right there.
